True love may be indescribable, but having these girls free-ranging in your backyard comes close! The Blue Laced Red Wyandotte (BLR) is a show-stopping breed that inspires admiration with every graceful step. Their smoky, charcoal blue lacing contrasted against rich mahogany feathers is undeniably gorgeous. Each order is fulfilled with a chick from the BLR bloodline, which may result in a Blue Laced Red, Splash, or Black Laced Gold, making every bird a delightful surprise.

You will receive (1) bird per quantity ordered.

Feather Colors:
The pronounced contrast of deep blue lacing against warm red gives the impression of a hand-painted quilt across their back and wings. In sunlight, the lacing shimmers with silvery tones, creating a soft glow that enhances the natural elegance of this rare variety. The BLR color was developed in the United States, made popular in Germany, and has recently experienced a resurgence among backyard keepers in the States. While Wyandottes are popular worldwide, this specific BLR variety is considered rare.

Eggs They Will Gift:
Wyandotte hens typically start laying eggs between four and six months of age, producing up to one egg per day from spring through fall. They average 4–6 large brown eggs per week and tend to lay better in the winter than many other breeds. Some eggs may be cream-colored, lightly brown, or speckled, adding a charming variety to your egg basket.

Personality:
Calm, confident, and adaptable, BLR Wyandottes integrate well into mixed flocks and are great for families. They enjoy free-ranging, foraging for bugs, and exploring the yard, yet they’ll happily come running for treats. This breed combines beauty, charm, and reliability, making them a joy to raise.

History:
The Wyandotte breed originated in the United States in the late 1800s as a dual-purpose bird, prized for both egg-laying and meat. The Blue Laced Red variety was developed later in the U.S., gained popularity in Germany, and has recently seen renewed interest among backyard keepers in the States. Its rarity and striking feather pattern make it a coveted addition to any flock, celebrated for both beauty and productivity.

Sexing Method:
Vent sexing as a day old is most common sexing method for this breed. The accuracy of being reliably identifiable by external characteristics on average is 85-90%. Several communities have laws in which roosters are not allowed.  Thus, industry standard is to offer as a female chick or pullet even though 10-15% will be accidental roosters.  We are DIFFERENT because we care for any female covered chicks that end up being a rooster.

We understand that several families live in areas where city ordinances do not allow roosters. While industry standard does not provide credit or rooster returns for roosters that were sold as 'pullets', we guarantee female sexing by giving the boy a home and providing store credit based on orginal purchased price should you accidently get a rooster. If you do not want to risk falling in love with a chick that turns out to be a rooster, we also offer the option of DNA sexing services. DNA sexing is a significantly higher investment as cost averages 3x that of a female covered chick.
