We understand the need to rehome hens either due to their lack of productivity as they age or when a family is moving. We offer support to those that need to find a pet home for their ladies.

Adults only.
To join in with similar sized hens, she must be acclimated to being in an outdoor coop without supplemntal heat.
No fighting.
She must not be aggressive in any way. Hens agreessive towards small children or others are not eligible. Agressive behavior is defined as the hen will run towards you when your back is turned or pecks at your feet.
Perfect Health.
Several families entrust us to provide a safe home for the ladies that they enroll. This is only possible if we are picky about the health of new members. Hens need to be 100% healthy and never experienced any illness that required antibiotics to recover within her lifetime. No feathers should be missing, not in a molt, no mites, no lice, no bumble foot, no genentic defects or injuries.
Improve the chances of your hen finding an adoptive family. Typically, the friendliest hens that have a description with photos/videos from their orginal family will find adoptive homes quicker. Click here to create a post about your hen. We often get similar named girls, so it helps to notate the breed and name of your girl in the title of the post. It makes it easier for the new family to find your post and provide followup photos and information after adoption. The goal is for the orginal family to create the post and the adoptive family to add comments with photos/videos which gives heartwarming peace of mind to the orginal family. To avoid having to redo the post, make sure photos and videos are fully loaded before pressing "publish". It is easiest to write the post and publish, then update with photos/videos to avoid retyping.
Financial Commitment.
While we cover the bulk of the finanical responsiblity to provide quality continuted life time care, we require a small one time enrollment fee for each hen intake. For families that believe in what we do or want to contribute more, we accept material and financial donations.
How much do we invest in caring for each hen reliquished?
$2000 Coop large enough to support 50 hens
$500 fencing to support a free ranging run for 50 hens
$75 Feeders/waterers for 50 hens
$23,725 Feed costs per 5 years of care (26 cents a day per Adult).
$526 is our average total financial investment to care for each hen relinquished to our farm.
($23,725 + $75 +$500 +$2,000)/50 Hens= $526 This is a monthly commitment of $8.76 ($526/60) per hen. We are very grateful to our customers that choose to purchase from us to allow us to cover most of the expenses for families not able to keep their hens purchased due to city ordinances restricting the number of hens that can be kept.
The actual costs fluctuate as several girls can easily live for 10 years which would double our investment to give these girls a fulfilled life. A few lucky ladies are adopted by loving families which helps us with room to intake more girls in need. Materials/ financial donations and families that choose to purchase from our farm allows us to cover most of the fees to support the Hen's Retirement Home allowing us to offer a low one-time fee to intake roosters including those that were not originally purchased from us.
Pet Hen Intake
A membership fee is required for each hen accepted into the "Hen Retirement Home". The fee allows us to feed the hen our organic feed the first few months of her stay and continue to improve their habitat. My hope is that families will purchase from and support sellers that accept aged hens back to help eliminate this situation. Thus, we offer a coupon for 10% off your next chicken order when you enroll your hen with us.
Accidental Rooster Purchased from us?
You do not need to enroll. We offer a free home to all accidental roosters that were purchased as a female chick from us. In addition, we provide a store credit based on orginal purchased price.
Accidental Rooster Purchased from somewhere else?
We currently still have room. It is typically harder to find pet homes for roosters that come from hatchery/feed store bloodlines. Thus, there is a higher enrollment fee for roosters that were not purchased from us.
Too many Roosters from a batch of unsexed chicks purchased from us?
We have huge sucess in finding homes for the roosters with our bloodlines. The roosters often are able to find homes where families raise as pets, show, or want to improve the breed. Thus, we offer a significant discount on roosters that were purchased as unsexed chicks from us. Please note: A valid reciept is required for this discounted option.
