This game helps children understand the 21-day incubation journey while giving adults a practical, age-appropriate way to explain both successful hatches and the reality that not every egg will hatch.
Players follow the chick’s development from Day 0 through Hatch Day, drawing from a 112-card Hatch Scientist deck that introduces normal embryo development, good hatch practices, common incubation mistakes, fixable problems, and realistic reasons an embryo may stop developing. The goal is not simply to reach the end first: players track a starting group of eggs and see who reaches Hatch Day with the most eggs remaining.
The game is designed to make difficult concepts easier for young children to understand. Egg loss becomes part of the gameplay rather than an unexpected shock, helping children prepare emotionally for the real hatching experience while still keeping the activity positive, exciting, and educational.
The digital game includes the 112-card printable deck, student game board, four-page classroom game board, player cards, printable chick game pieces, How to Play page, and detailed printing instructions. The large classroom board can be printed across four landscape pages and assembled into a larger tabletop game board, while the single-page board works well for families, learning centers, homeschool groups, and individual play.
Children will explore topics such as proper incubation conditions, temperature and moisture, ventilation, egg handling, candling, turning, lockdown, embryo growth, hatch timing, and situations that may affect hatch success. Just as importantly, the game reinforces an important real-world lesson: good care improves the chances of a successful hatch, but even with good care, not every embryo will survive or hatch.
This flexible game can be used for whole-class instruction, small groups, homeschool lessons, family play, learning centers, or solo review. It works especially well alongside a live classroom or home incubation project, but children can enjoy and learn from the game even without a current hatch.
Your purchase is a DIGITAL DOWNLOAD only. No physical game, printed cards, game pieces, or other materials will be mailed. You will receive a printable game file that you can print at home, school, or through a local print service. For best results, the card deck should be printed double-sided, flip on the short edge, at 100%/Actual Size according to the included printing guide.
Included in the digital download: 112 Hatch Scientist cards, full-color 21-day student game board, four-page classroom game board, 12-egg player cards, printable chick stand-up tokens, classroom/family/solo play directions, and component-specific printing instructions.
Ideal for: ages 5+, kindergarten through early elementary, homeschool families, classroom incubation projects, farm and poultry education, science units, families hatching chicks at home, and adults who want a thoughtful way to prepare children for both the wonder and uncertainty of hatching.
Please note: This is an educational game and does not guarantee hatch success or replace the instructions provided by your incubator manufacturer or professional poultry guidance.
